Clean chit to ASP Madhur Verma
CHANDIGARH: UT polices inquiryexpectedly gave a clean chit to ASP Madhur Verma in the case pertaining tobeating of a businessman and CBIs complaint in a graft case againstsub-inspector Arvind Pandey. The inquiry officer SP Hardeep Singh Doon submittedhis report to the IG UT SK Jain on Friday.Officials told TOI that inthe inquiry, the SP did not find any evidence against the ASP. The inquiryreport has the written statement of the medical officers who attended on Pandeywhen he reached Government Multispeciality Hospital, Sector-16 for medicaltreatment. They stated that Pandey was beaten by his own brother and notby ASP, stated Doon.Interestingly, this is the first case against thecops at the police complaint authority (PCA), reactivated by the home secretary. It could be added that Pandey is a CBI complainant in a graft caseagainst SI Sanjeev Kumar for allegedly demanding bribe of Rs 50,000 from him.The SI is considered close to the ASP and other IPS officers in UT police.Pandey said on the fateful day, December 26, 2008, he had gone to theASPs office to complain about inaction of UT police in its dealing withhis property dispute. The ASP then started beating him up and then allowed hisgunmen to rough him up.
It could be added that the UT police was notinterested in filing the FIR, it was only after CBIs intervention that aninquiry was ordered. Besides, Pandeys medical examination was conductedby medical officers after CBI officers persisted.Pandey said therewas only one way to go out of the police station without being captured: throughthe second door of the ASPs office, which was used by the officer himselfand other VIPs. Pandey stated that the inquiry was a mere eyewash. I gotno justice from the UT police, he said.
